Mitsubishi revives Eclipse name for new compact crossover

Mitsubishi has teased images of the new Nissan Qashqai-rivalling SUV it plans to unveil at next month's Geneva motor show.

"The Eclipse Cross's lovely, dynamic form serves to bring about the same sense of excitement and inspiration as the diamond ring seen immediately before and after a total solar eclipse does", the Japanese carmaker said.

It's not clear whether the Outlander's plug-in-hybrid drivetrain will be made available to the Eclipse Cross, though it would appear to be an obvious route for expansion of the technology that has redefined Mitsubishi sales, particularly in the UK.

The auto goes on sale in the second half of this year and will be on display at the Geneva motor show next month.

All these (investigations) continued for more than two years and we're all exhausted of it. She is the second Russian from the 2012 800m final to be retrospectively banned.

Most of us have memories of riding in a Mitsubishi Eclipse; the sporty coupe launched in 1989 and discontinued in 2012.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 7 sporting a deep gloss red metallic finish which has specially developed for the new model. But the carmaker ended production of the nameplates, along with Endeavor SUV, in 2011 in an effort to cut costs and reconfigure its lineup around utility vehicles. Mitsubishi pulled the plug on the plant altogether then shut it down past year, according to Automotive News.

The upcoming Eclipse Cross will be slated between the Outlander and smaller Outlander Sport.
