Calm Sunday...Severe Weather Threat Monday

Posted April 03, 2017

The service's national Storm Prediction Center listed central North Carolina as being at a what it labels a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms. There will be a threat for damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes, especially over the southern part of our area.

After a chilly start, another very nice weather day is in store for Sunday with a mostly sunny sky helping temperatures into the 70s.

The primary threat with these storms will be destructive straight line winds in excess of 70 miles-per-hour and tornadoes.

Sanctuary cities: Seattle sues Trump administration over executive order
As the debate continues surrounding sanctuary cities, when it comes to what they are, at least you can say, "Now I get it". Murray said the federal government can not compel the city's police department to enforce federal immigration law.

Midweek, the next low pressure system will move into the Plains and Midwest, possibly bringing the risk of severe weather. It looks like storms will come in two waves Monday: the first comes in the morning ahead of the main system, and the second comes in the afternoon along a cold front. Unfortunately, severe weather is possible as early as breakfast time on Sunday, and the potential for widespread storms and severe weather will continue through at least the late afternoon.

Confidence is increasing for a severe weather event to take place across Central Georgia Monday afternoon and evening. Off and on showers and storms are expected today across much of the state. Tornado watches are the most likely. "[We] can't rule out the chance of a tornado either with these weather conditions".

The risk of severe weather will slide east into portions of eastern Texas Saturday night. Moisture levels will increase significantly after the warm front moves through and that is when we are most likely to see storms. Highs were in the low to mid 80s with a full day of sunshine. An isolated tornado can not be ruled out, but this is not likely. When combined with rainfall from Wednesday this could easily cause more localized street flooding and flash flooding of low-lying areas. I will have an update tomorrow morning. Calm and dry weather is forecast through the weekend.
