Giraffe born at Toledo zoo won't go on exhibit for a while

Posted April 10, 2017

The world has been waiting on April to have her calf at Animal Adventure Park in NY.

"Her body/belly is much less beach balled, as the bulges have streamlined", officials said on Facebook.

"Those long legs take a little bit of getting used to but the new calf is doing ever so well, as is mom". Let's just hope she doesn't keep us waiting until May or later!

The now world-famous giraffe has been shunning her grain as of late, but that all changed quickly Thursday night - perhaps in preparation for the long-awaited birth.

More than 135,000 people were tuned into the live stream shortly before 8 a.m. Friday as April twitched her tail, pacing around in her pen, head to the ground. He added that he could not induce labor as it may endanger both April and her calf, so everyone must be patient and wait until we see hooves coming out of April's rear. He or she will weigh around 150lb and will stand at 6' tall.

YouTube briefly removed the live stream, then restored it - and a pregnant animal star was born.

Equinox member Shed Boren told The Herald the incident involved a disgruntled trainer: "I had just left Equinox, " he said. Witnesses at Soul Cycle, the Villagio Restaurant and the Yard House reported hearing the gun shots about 1 p.m.

As viewers spend hours on their screens, looking into April's enclosure, some are wondering whether the giraffe is even pregnant.

"That whole process, from a calf being born to it taking its very first steps, is an incredibly special thing to see".

Animal Adventure Park has created a GoFundMe page to raise funds to run the zoo and upgrade the giraffe facilities. Pretty much all of her clinical signs from a couple days ago are still true.

April has been with Animal Adventure Park since September 2015 and this is her first calf birth at the park. The park said those were signs that she was experiencing contractions.

It is not clear exactly when April's waters will break. Bulls take no part in rearing young. Considering that April has given birth a few times before, veterinarians on staff at the Animal Adventure Park should have some idea how she responds during pregnancy and labor. The last time the Kim Komando Facebook page posted her live feed, the video received over 17,000 views and over 1,700 comments! The zoo has announced that it will conduct a naming contest after April delivers a baby to involve fans.
