Ms Morano was born on 29 November 1899 in the Piedmont region of Italy. She credited her long life to good genes and steady diet of 3 eggs a day - 2 of them raw.
According to her physician, Dr. Carlo Brava, Emma Morano was not particularly encumbered by a lack of mobility, especially for someone her age. She died at her home in the city of Verbania.
Emma Morano, 117, of Italy died Saturday afternoon, AFP and the Associated Press reported.
Brown was born March 10, 1900 and is believed to be one of the two remaining persons who were born in the 19th century.

"I worked in a factory until I was 65, then that was that", she said as she sat in an armchair by her window, a white shawl over her shoulders. Her doctor says she rarely ate vegetables or fruit and instead subsisted primarily on chicken, omelettes, and biscuits. It was a habit she picked up at the age of 20, when a doctor advised her that consuming these three daily eggs would help treat her anemia.

Bava, who said Morano's caretaker gave him the news, chalked up her longevity to genetics.

Morano left her husband in 1938 because he would beat her.
