After months of negotiations, both men came to an agreement and the fight was officially announced on Wednesday.

Whatever the outcome of the fight, both McGregor and Mayweather will walk away with a significant boost to their net worth.

His last fight came in September of 2015 when he picked up a unanimous decision win over Andre Berto.

Tammy Ross, who worked for HBO previous year as senior vice president of HBO PPV, told ESPN that she can see Mayweather-McGregor setting a new record because it will bring together both boxing and UFC fans.

"Just last week I was collecting the social welfare", McGregor said back then during a postfight press conference, per Yahoo! It has also intrigued some in boxing, though most dismiss McGregor's chances under boxing rules against one of the greatest defensive fighters in history. While you could argue his rivalry with Mayweather might be clouding his judgement, it would be irresponsible to dismiss his comments completely. McGregor is 27 years old and a southpaw. The chief executive of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, was asked Wednesday night if the fight could gross half a billion dollars.

Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place at 154-pounds. He will go after Floyd Mayweather and he will try to knock him out'.

Though Las Vegas oddsmakers have made Mayweather a heavy 10-1 favorite, the thought of the fight has excited many in the MMA world.
