The neighbor added that Hodgkinson was "quite vocal" and "obnoxious" about his beliefs.

Sue Hodgkinson talked with reporters briefly in Belleville, Illinois, on Thursday - in part to ask the media to stop disrupting the neighborhood. "I go down to the post office quite often, and he would be there collecting signatures on things he was for, and if you weren't of his opinion, he'd be very agitated", McClenahan said.

"I served with many of these congressmen, they're my friends, including Rep. Steve Scalise, who is seriously wounded - but I can say with confidence that he continues to receive the best possible medical care". Bernie Sanders said the gunman had been among the many volunteers on his presidential campaign. She later criticized "sanctimonious" Republicans, including some in Congress, who have suggested that heated rhetoric from the political left may be partially responsible for the attack.

The New York Times reported that Hodgkinson was licensed to buy guns in IL, his state of residence. She was flanked by a local county deputy when standing in front of a plethora of microphones.

Hodgkinson owned a home inspection business, which he dissolved on January 10, according to Secretary of State corporate records.

James Hodgkinson, 66, was arrested after a 2006 incident in which he was accused of beating his foster daughter, according to court records. She said she thought he was going to return to IL because he'd run out of money.

The shooter, who is known as Tom (his middle name) to his friends and family, was raised in the same IL town where he and his wife resided.

Ron Wyden (D-OR) had a heated exchange with Sessions, in which Wyden said "the American people have had it with stonewalling ". As a longtime senator from Alabama, Sessions will be granted some degree of deference, at least from Republicans.

The Washington Post first reported the suspect's identity. Steve Scalise and three others at an Alexandria, Virginia, park Wednesday morning (June 15) told reporters she had no idea what her husband had planned and was sorry he did it, according to television stations in St. Louis and other news sources. Wednesday, they said the IL resident had been living out of his auto in the D.C. area since March.

The widow also maintains she is not sure if there had been a particular catalyst behind the timing of his leaving their home in Bellevue, Illinois.

The couple had been married for about 30 years.

Until recently, Hodgkinson ran a home-inspection business out of his house. It was not immediately clear if she thought her husband's move was temporary.

During the dispute, Moreland said, she jumped in a auto with her friend, but Hodgkinson opened the vehicle's door and hit her, then used a knife to cut the seat belt off his foster daughter.

Authorities said Wednesday there was not yet a clear motive for the shooting, as the FBI investigated Hodgkinson's associations and social media postings. They don't deserve this.

The attack occurred as GOP members practiced for an annual charity baseball between members of Congress.
