Graham Rahal was second Saturday for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, followed by Penske's Helio Castroneves and Will Power, and Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon.

American Josef Newgarden, ranked one ahead of Power in championship standings in fourth, won the race.

Simon Pagenaud took the pole Saturday for the IndyCar race Sunday at Exhibition Place.

He quit after the lap. Bottas is now 35 points behind the series-leading Vettel, with Lewis Hamilton - who failed to reach the podium last week - now 20 points back. The first Formula 1 World Championships race was held at Silverstone in 1950, won by Guiseppe Farina in an Alfa Romeo. "It's way easier to make a mistake, it's way easier to get into the wall".

"I knew when we made the decision to pit, James was really struggling", Rossi said when asked about the first pit stop on lap 23.

Alexander Rossi was second for his first podium finish of the year and best since winning the 2016 Indianapolis 500.

Despite his street course win in Long Beach, the 30-year-old Hinchcliffe doesn't necessarily believe that it will give him an advantage in Toronto. Last year: Lewis Hamilton won the second of four consecutive races. It's just that suddenly sixth, eighth, ninth and 10th are off, slightly, by comparison to wins and podiums wracked up by Team Penske.

The individual or individuals involved in the incident vandalized the building and slashed tires of vehicles at the center. Benjamin Rhoden has been identified only as a "person of interest" and it is not clear if charges will be filed Tuesday.

"That is twice I have had good calls and got into the pits at the right time", Newgarden said.

"We made more progress and made a big change overnight just to see if we could gain some grip", Daly said.

Newgarden, driving the No. 2 Chevrolet for Team Penske, arrived in Canada 56 points out of the points lead. As we've said, this year has been a huge turnaround.

"We were up there but I'll always take a bit of luck, I think we all would", he said. His previous two top fives this season came at Barber and Belle Isle, while the rest of his top-10s were on the Indy road course, his seventh-place at the Indy 500 and another seventh place in the second Detroit race.

"From the moment when we start in go-kart, when you manage to do that special lap it's the best feeling in the world". Even so, there's been no rhyme or reason to who's won at the earlier portion of those tracks this year.

Andrew Ranger, a former Champ Car driver will start from the pole position beside second-place qualifier Alex Tagliani, another former Champ Car/IndyCar star. Big shout out to the Toronto fans for coming out to the race. "I think this morning we were P17 so we made some good strides to make it to the Firestone Fast Six, ultimately fifth".

It's a barnburner of a finish since no one has more than two wins yet this year, but as ever, the combination of wins and consistency will deliver this year's IndyCar title. "We led most of the way in the race a year ago until we got hosed on the yellow there and went to the back".
