JD Martinez trade proves Diamondbacks will go down swinging

Posted July 21, 2017

It's possible the Red Sox will look to add a bat at the trade deadline and if they do, it will not be Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez.

The Diamondbacks sent over Dawel Lugo, who ranks fourth according to MLB.com among the Diamondback prospects.

J.D. Martinez helped the Tigers in many ways.

Residing in an interesting place with a below-.500 record and a glut of cornerstone players who are impending free agents, the Kansas City Royals found matters hard this week against a Detroit Tigers team that's already begun to sell assets.

He was in the initial starting lineup Tuesday against the Royals before getting scratched when the trade was announced.

Through 57 games this season, Martinez has 16 homers and 39 runs batted in, including a slash line of.305/.388/.630. Avila could have taken stronger offers, especially from Arizona's rivals in Colorado and Los Angeles, who were both very interested in Martinez AND have better farm systems than the Diamondbacks.

Trump's approval ratings hit new low
Comparatively, approval ratings remained low among non-white Protestants, college educated white women, Hispanics, and blacks. Bush and Barack Obama both held 59 percent approval ratings in Post/ABC polls conducted around their six-month anniversaries.

"It's an ongoing process", Avila said.

"This is where I made my name", Martinez said of playing for the Tigers.

"Me and Al go way back", Martinez said.

Vogt was injured on Monday night when Pirates pitcher Chad Kuhl ran into him in the fifth inning of Pittsburgh's 4-2 victory. He earned an All-Star appearance, a Silver Slugger award and some MVP votes in 2015 when he was able to play 158 games. They are 11 games behind the Dodgers and half a game behind Arizona. That's unbelievable and they may yet challenge for a.700 winning percentage this season. Mahtook entered the game because a left-handed reliever was on in the seventh. He gave up just four hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out two.

Lackey returns for Cubs: John Lackey was activated from the 10-day disabled list and started for the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday after missing two weeks. Jason Hammel will start game three and is 4-8 with a 5.02 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season.

Moss had three hits, including a home run in the third inning.
