More Cong MLAs quit in Gujarat

All three candidates of BJP for RS polls, Amit Shah, Smriti Irani and Balwantsinh Rajput will file their nomination on Friday morning at Gujarat Assembly.

Till now 6 MLAs have quit Congress and joined BJP taking Congress' tally to 51 in the 182-member assembly.

Three senior Gujarat Congress legislators on Thursday resigned from the party and joined the BJP in a huff, expressing their anger against the Congress for ignoring their aspirations.

Chhanabhai Chaudhary, the party legislator from Vansda in Navsari district, gave his resignation to the Speaker at the latter's residence last night, while Ramsinh Parmar, MLA from Thasra in Anand district quit today from the Congress party and as MLA.

Elections will be held for three Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat on August 8. Vaghela is believed to enjoy the support of 26 of 57 Congress MLAs. In such circumstances, it is not possible for me to work for Congress party, due to this I resign from all the posts of Congress.

According to sources, Balwantsinh Rajput who is Chief whip of the Congress in the Assembly, is likely to be fielded by the BJP against veteran Congress leader Ahmed Patel, who is a lone Congress candidate for the Upper House.

Some state Congress MLAs on July 17 cross-voted in the presidential election in favour of National Democratic Alliance candidate Ram Nath Kovind. "The (Rajya Sabha) elections are still 8-10 days away... all options are open to us".

With Nitish Kumar-led Bihar in its kitty, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on a new high, and is said to be contemplating a far-far reaching reshuffle in the union government as also in the organizational machinery, so as to keep the party battle-fit for the 2019 elections.

With the Gujarat Assembly elections only few months away, the Congress no longer looks in position to take on the BJP, which looks all set to add five more years to its 20-year long rule in the state. Similar attempts to buy the loyalty of Congress MLAs Shri Mangalbhai Gavit and Shri Ishwarbhai Patel were made by misuse of muscle power, money power and state power.
