Jacksonville Fan Wears Custom Jaguars Kaepernick Jersey To Preseason Game

Starting Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles, already on thin ice with first-year coach Doug Marrone, struggled badly Thursday night against Tampa Bay in a nationally televised preseason game. Everyone saw it out there.

Blake Bortles finished 8-13 for 65 yards, but his play was far worse as he continued to show regression from his 2015 year when he had 35 touchdowns.

Marrone and Coughlin have publicly supported Bortles all year, even picking up the fifth-year option in his rookie contract.

Henne's first pass should have resulted in a touchdown, but Keelan Cole dropped it at the goal line.

Marrone's comments gave some, such as NFL Network's Gregg Rosenthal, the impression that the coach was very likely to bench Bortles and go with Henne. But that money is fully guaranteed only for injury, and Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times Union thinks it would "make ideal sense" for the Jaguars to cut Bortles this summer. Bortles's career marks in adjusted yards per attempt (6.1) and passer rating (79.6) are also lower than Kaepernick's (7.3, 88.9). However, Jacksonville had the ball first and was able to start the game with a quick first down.

No matter who starts, the Jaguars are exactly where you don't want to be at this point in the preseason: They're three weeks away from their regular season opener and they have no idea who their starting quarterback is going to be. "I'm not going to sit here and say how much ground he's gained". "I told them what I'm looking for is I'm looking for someone that's gonna lead this offense".

The Jaguars' faltered throughout the first three quarters until third-string quarterback Brandon Allen entered the game. He has completed 59 percent of his passes for 12,931 yards, with 58 touchdowns and 63 interceptions.

"It definitely wasn't pretty, that's for sure", Campbell said.

"Well, it's a lot better than trying to think someone is going to be something that they're not", Marrone said. "I work with what we have".

Former Oklahoma receiver Dede Westbrook had an impressive performance for the Jaguars in their second preseason game Thursday night.
