North Korea state media says army 'on standby to launch'

North Korea's latest threats come after days of growing tensions between Donald Trump's USA administration and President Kim Jong-un's reclusive state.

"I don't think anyone can really predict what our president may offer, because he is one of those thinkers outside the box", Metcalfe said. Few have so far canceled vacations, the Pacific Daily News reported this week.

Mr. Trump has sought to leverage trade and North Korea with China for months, initially expressing optimism after hosting Mr. Xi at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, only to later grow discouraged that Beijing was not following through. Beijing, which is concerned about the implications for its own security that a nuclear North Korea poses, is nearly certainly letting Pyongyang know of its concerns.

The Guam Visitor's Bureau sees that as a silver lining. "The day before, it posted a picture of the blue water and white sand on Hagatña Bay with "#visitguam #fortheloveofweekends". Almost 133,000 tourists visited Guam last July, surpassing the top record from 1997. In days since that threat was issued, Trump has doubled down, meeting with his national security staff to discuss ways to ameliorate the crisis or else confront the North militarily. Pointing to US threats on Guam serves to rebut Chinese complaints, at least a bit. The result of all USA diplomatic efforts is a North Korea closer than ever to launching a nuclear weapons attack on the United States.

The President also told the governor that the White House was "with you 1,000 per cent".

In the wake of media and political backlash over the fire and fury comment, President Trump doubled down on his statement, adding that perhaps he did not go far enough.

US, South Korea War Games Start Monday; Pyongyang Warns of 'Catastrophe'
If South Korea really wants no war on the Korean Peninsula, it should try to stop this military exercise. South Korean President Moon Jae-in said that its neighbor is crossing the red line with these tests.

French President Emmanuel Macron made a plea to de-escalate tensions with North Korea and called on the worldwide community to proceed toward new measures aimed at an irreversible dismantling of the country's nuclear program.

"I wish there would be less partisanship up there", Calvo told Trump.

"It's a weird situation where he is much more experienced than Donald Trump, who is twice as old as him", says Delury.

"Mr. President, as the governor of Guam and as an American citizen, I have never felt more safe or confident with you at the helm", Governor Calvo told President Trump. In a recent Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia Susan Thornton articulated the administration's belief that talks would not get North Korea to abandon its nuclear-weapons programme, even if they brought much-needed economic concessions.

Others, however, are more critical, saying Trump needs to tone down his antagonistic language.

As tensions between #Donald Trump's administration and #North Korea continue to rise, the Rodong Sinmum, an official mouthpiece of President Kim Jong-un's government, has warned that the American mainland could be reduced to ashes at any moment. "Guam is not a bargaining chip", Rep. Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D-Guam) said in a statement earlier this week. A senior general within North Korea's leadership specified last week that four missiles would be fired into seas just short of the island - home to 163,000 American citizens and two United States military bases - upon Kim's approval, as a message to Washington of its willingness to engage. Elleman, who analyzed the video, concluded that it most likely "disintegrated" before splashdown, suggesting North Korea is still struggling with re-entry.
