Vols #25, Bama stars atop AP Poll for 2nd straight year

Although not quite the headline matchup of Alabama-Florida State, the Gators will also also open with a top-20 matchup.

South Florida was the highest-ranked team from a Group of Five conference at No. 19.

This is the ninth consecutive season the Tide has been ranked in the preseason top five, the second-longest streak since the preseason poll started in 1950.

Other Big 12 programs joining the Wildcats in the 2017 Preseason AP Top 25 were Oklahoma (7th), Oklahoma State (10th), West Virginia (22nd) and Texas (23rd).

Notre Dame was not ranked in the updated preseason Associated Press top 25 poll, which was released on Monday.

In 1962, the two countries engaged in a bloody border war and skirmishes have continued to break out sporadically. India has offered that both sides withdraw troops to engage in dialogue, but China has refused that option.

Since 2008, the year Georgia was the consensus preseason No. 1 team, the Bulldogs have finished lower than their preseason rank six out of nine years. This is only the third time since 2004 that K-State has earned a spot in the inaugural AP top 25. Last season, Oklahoma began at No. 3.

Florida enters the 2017 season outside the preseason Top 10 for the sixth time in seven seasons since former head coach Urban Meyer left after the 2010 season. Eighth-ranked Washington and No. 9 Wisconsin lead the Cowboys while MI closely trails at No. 11. Alabama's ten AP national titles lead the way, with Notre Dame sitting second with eight.

Also that season, LSU went on to win the BCS National Championship.

Notre Dame opens the 2017 season at home against Temple on September 2. Alabama sits atop once more.

This is the 10th consecutive season that Alabama has been ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll at some point during the season.
