Why are we being avoided, asks Sasikala-Dinakaran faction on AIADMK merger

The sacking of VK Sasikala, who is in a Bengaluru prison in a corruption case, as the party's chief was an important demand of Team OPS for the merger.

If that happens and he manages to prevail upon the governor to call for a trust vote, chief minister Edapaddi Palanisami could struggle to cobble up the numbers.

She said that from day one Sasikala and TTV Dinakaran wanted the merger of the party and everybody to come together once again and added that now they have been sidelined. The Palaniswami faction had already passed a resolution cancelling the appointment of her nephew TTV Dhinakaran as the deputy general secretary.

Confirming that the two had got back their posts, R. Vaithilingam, organising secretary of the AIADMK, told The Hindu that this was done as it was former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who had appointed them. These steps would be a prerequisite to reclaiming the party's Two Leaves symbol. The expulsion of Ms Sasikala was a pre-condition of the faction led by O Panneerselvam for joining the larger group led by Mr Palaniswami.

DMK on Monday questioned the likely merger of two factions of AIADMK, terming it a "BJP-engineered" move. The merger announcement has been made in at the party headquarters in Chennai.

Modi had met the leaders of both factions recently, expressing his party's interest in erasing the divisions within the regional party.

Pompeo on Nuclear Confrontation With North Korea: 'Nothing Imminent Today'
McMaster stressed China's roles in resolving the North Korean issues, saying that the threat from North Korea is very clear. North Korean officials in turn have accused the US leader of driving the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war.

Reciting late AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, he said, "Amma (Jayalalithaa) had said that after me AIADMK will last over 100 years". However, such a power play alarmed EPS, who as a effect began reaching out to OPS, who remained adamant on returning as Chief Minister. A senior party official said the merger was finalised on Thursday night.

Chief Minister Palaniswami will be the Joint Coordinator.

Addressing media in Rajapalayam, he said an accord has been reached following talks between the two factions. That is why he had directed the senior leaders of the party in Tamil Nadu and had entrusted the responsibility of this work to the party general secretary Muralidhar Rao.
