Rudy resigns amid reports of likely reshuffle in Modi ministry

Minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy and water resources minister Uma Bharti reportedly resigned from the Union council of ministers amid speculation of an impending Cabinet reshuffle, sources close to them said on Thursday.

According to reports from national media, Ministers Radha Mohan Singh, Giriraj Singh and Sanjeev Balyan too resigned and more resignations are expected to come in. The Cabinet reshuffle may take place before Prime Minister Narendra Modi leaves for the Brics summit on Sunday.

Kalraj Mishra is likely to be offered a gubernatorial assignment, sources said.

BJP President Amit Shah, who is likely to be in Vrindavan for the next three days to attend an RSS coordination meet, on Thursday held meetings with some ministers and senior party leaders. Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari's name is doing the rounds for Railway Minister's post.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu was among the probables to be removed from the Cabinet, considering the resignation offered by him following the back-toback train derailment incidents in UP's Muzaffarnagar and Auriya districts.

Earlier in the day, Union minister Mahendra Nath Pandey was appointed Uttar Pradesh BJP president in place of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, creating one more vacancy in the Council of Ministers. The last Cabinet reshuffle took place in July previous year.

The election in Gujarat is due at the end of this year and the party will soon launch its poll slogan "Garaje Gujarat".
