President, First Lady to Visit Florida in Aftermath of Hurricane Irma

Having seen the damage in our impacted areas first hand with local response leaders, I greatly appreciate Governor Scott's requests and President Trump's approval of federal assistance for our communities.

It was a freaky turn of events for a president who's been inclined recently to turn to Democrats to jump-start legislative imperatives, and it came just days after Trump and the Democratic leaders agreed to back a three-month extension of the debt limit in order to speed federal financial assistance to hurricane-ravaged Southern states.

Florida experienced the highest evacuation in history after about 8 million of its citizens were advised to evacuate their homes to prevent casualties in the wake of the Atlantic storm which ravaged the state including the Caribbeans and caused billions of dollars in damages. He toured a Houston shelter housing hundreds of displaced people and walking streets lined with soggy, discarded possessions.

President Trump will visit Puerto Rico later this month to view the recovery efforts from Hurricane Irma's landfall this week.

As Northeast Florida begins to recover from Hurricane Irma, Congressman John Rutherford pointed residents to federal disaster relief programs that can help with recovery.

He added, "We want to get massive border security and I think that both Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer I think they agree with it, but we met last night and I think were fairly close but we have to get massive border security". "The United States Coast Guard, FEMA, along with Governor Scott, they've really done an awesome job and power is being turned on rapidly".
