Sean Spicer helps Stephen Colbert mock Trump at the Emmys

James Corden has made light of the backlash he received after he was spotted planting a kiss on the cheek of former White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

The former White House press secretary's cameo was Colbert's idea, and they arranged to maximize the surprise factor through Chris Licht, the Colbert producer who knew Spicer from his background in news.

"Uh... I don't think it was probably the..."

The wheeled podium should be familiar, considering it was a close copy of the same prop used on "Saturday Night Live" with the Sean Spicer spoofs, as portrayed by Melissa McCarthy since May. Yet without going into many specifics, he did try to explain that he didn't always agree. "Whether or not you agree isn't your job".

He came on stage to joke "this will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys - period", making a reference to the debacle over numbers attending Donald's Trump's inauguration speech.

"Now, understandably, some people have been disappointed by this photo", he said.

U.S. investigators wiretapped Paul Manafort, report says
According to CNN , the new warrant was related to an FBI investigation into contacts between the Trump campaign and Russians. The subpoenaed former Manafort lawyer is Melissa Laurenza, a specialist in lobbying law, according to the Times sources.

"They came up with a concept, and I thought it was kinda amusing".

While Hollywood is not thought to be the most receptive crowd for Trump administration officials, Spicer said he had no trepidation about the appearance.

Liberal commentator Keith Olbermann tweeted that the Emmys lost its credibility by lionizing Spicer. To be fair, everyone was kissing a** last night at the Emmys.

"Of course I do, absolutely", Spicer said when asked if he regretted it. The Late Show host has soared in the ratings this year with comedy that has been sharply critical of Trump and his team.

But in his Monday night monologue, Corden said he had seen the criticism on social media and acknowledged that he was "disappointed" by the kiss.

After listing off a slew of celebrities he had once kissed - Bryan Cranston, Allison Janney and Harry Styles, to name a few - Corden finished, "basically what I'm saying is, I need to learn how to shake hands". In truth, I'm disappointed by it as well.
