HomePod Release Date Delayed: Apple Speaker Will Launch Next Year

Posted November 18, 2017

Today, it conceded it will "need a little more time" before HomePod is ready for public consumption. "We'll start shipping in the US, UK and Australia in early 2018".

Priced at $349 and launching in space gray and white, the 7-inch-tall HomePod features an Apple A8 chip, seven-tweeter array, and a 4-inch designed Apple woofer.

Apple has delayed the launch of its HomePod smart speaker until early 2018, the technology giant has said. It comes with built-in smart assistant like you find on Google Home and Amazon Echo.

This time around, Apple will miss out on the bounty of festive sales, potentially ceding them to Amazon, Google, Sonos and other manufacturers of smart speakers. It's a Siri controlled device that's loaded with speakers for high quality music streaming, uses several microphones to produce the best audio it can based on where it is in a room, And can be paired with a more HomePods for stereo sound and audio in multiple rooms. This is speculation, of course - unless Apple provides more information, we may never know the reason behind the delay.

However, given the brand loyalty of many Apple fans, it's likely many eyeing the HomePod speaker will practice patience and wait for the perfected product to land. You can stream other services to it from a smartphone, but not with Siri. HomePod will be a while before we see it on sale and available to the public.
