CJI critical of another petition to stop release of Padmavati

A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Rs100 million prize for the heads of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone, the director and lead actress of the film Padmavati.

Sources said that there were protests in Ambala, Karnal, Hisar, Mahendargarh and Dadri districts demanding the ban of the movie by various organizations including Rajputs. Distortion of history will not be tolerated. He also sought institution of criminal case against Bhansali.

"On November 25 from Surat a countrywide campaign will start", he said.

Members of Karni Sena, a fringe political group, attacked the sets and seven slapped Bhansali alleging that the film had romantic scenes between Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, who play Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji respectively.

Yesterday, the BJP's media chief tried to distance the party from Mr Amu's 100million-rupee bounty.

As Amu's remarks came in for criticism from several quarters, the BJP sent a show cause notice to him, indicating that the party would take action against him. But Gurugram Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar refused to comment on the issue. The commission told Sandhu to look into the matter immediately and take an appropriate action in accordance with the law and then apprise the commission what action has been taken.

The makers of the Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh-Shahid Kapoor starrer "Padmavati", which has been wrapped in a controversy with members of the Rajput community protesting against the film which they say insults their sentiments, have deferred the release of the film.

Sharma said there was character assassination of more than 40 people.
