Apple Watch Pulls Further Ahead of Competitors

2017 was a record year for Apple Watch sales.

Apple Watch continues to lead in the smartwatch segment and 2017 shipments beat analyst expectations, according to research firm Canalys.

It turns out that Apple may have moved anywhere from 17.4-18 million smart timepieces past year, which is a 50% jump compared to 2016. Apple peddled "just under 9 million" Series 3 units previous year, accounting for almost half of all Apple Watch shipments in 2017. The Series 3 was the fastest selling LTE wearable on the market, with shipments doubling sequentially to 1.6 million.

The game will also feature another "intense and original game mode" that will apprently "bring a fierce new twist to the genre". In order to get the win, players will need to worry about a lot more than other survivors out in the field.

Party thanks to their discounts following the release of the Apple Watch 3, older models of the wearable made up 52 percent of all shipments in 2017. Apple doesn't give away specific figures, but a Canalys report claims that 8 million were shipped during the final quarter-a wearables record. This was achieved despite limited operator selection in the UK, Germany and France, which stifled growth potential there. "It was our best quarter ever for the Apple Watch", said the Apple CEO. Low said that Apple has pulled far ahead of competitors by continuing to focus on its core iPhone user base, even while rivals have brought to market innovative designs featuring things such as rotating bezels and circular screens. "Its recent updates to the Series 3, such as GymKit and Apple Heart Study, are proving to offer compelling use cases, encouraging users to spend more on accessories", he pointed out.

In terms of market share, Apple now holds 23% while the Chinese wonder-brand Xiaomi and Fitbit lag behind with 21% and 20% of the total share respectively.
