Pakistan militant killed in encounter with security forces

Sources said the encounter started after army's 13 Rashtriya Rifles and special operation group of Jammu and Kashmir police launched cordon and search operation at Sukur Din Mohlla, Hajin, 32 kms from here, during wee hours.

Meanwhile, the security forces today killed an unidentified terrorist during a fierce encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora.

Reports said that mobile Internet services were snapped in to contain law and order situation.

The militant is said to have escaped after suffering bullet injuries in a gunfight with the security forces in the area a day earlier.

One security guard was killed after militants attacked a security guard post near Charar-e-Sharief shrine in Budgam district on Sunday evening.

Unknown number of militants holed up in Hajin area are believed to be still engaged in gunfire with the security forces.

Following his encounter, however, the locals erupted in protest, refusing to hand over the deceased's body to the forces. Hajin, 32 kms from Srinagar, was once known as the epicentre of pro-government militia - Ikhwan - who broke the back of militancy in 1990's.
