It's Mario time on Google Maps!

Posted March 10, 2018

It could just be for today and tomorrow, March 10th, or longer (here's hoping). If you're already done with that step, open up the Google Maps app and start a route going anywhere. And one big one, for Nintendo anyway, is Mario Day, Mar. 10 (get it?), which it generally celebrates with gags and shout-outs. The result: Mario himself will join you in his Super Circuit-era go kart to drive alongside you.

"You'll need to install the newest version of the app for iPhone or Android-and then tap a yellow "?" icon-to unlock Mario's cameo. You will then see a prompt to enable Mario Time! "He'll be a constant companion wherever you're driving this week-to work, to school, or the spaghetti house". As you can see above, Mario will be in his famous go-kart.

The Google Maps-Mario Kart mashup will be available until March 17.

Reports Of Man With Gun, Body Armor At Yountville Veterans Home
A source told KTVU's Mark Ibanez the Federal Bureau of Investigation was negotiating with the suspect by phone. Investigators know who the gunman is and they know he is armed with a rifle. "There were many bullets fired".

The feature, added in partnership with Nintendo, even has an Easter egg, The Verge reports.

As part of the celebration of MAR10 Day, Nintendo is partnering with Starlight Children's Foundation, a nonprofit organization that specializes in touching the lives of seriously ill children by providing hospitalized kids with entertainment, education and innovative technology. It's Mario Day, or at least it is because the date itself looks like the word "Mario".

Yes, it's not technically March 10 yet; consider "Mario Maps" the company's early present to fans. That's right, you can have Mario help guide you to your destination when you're using Google Maps to help guide you on your way. With it installed, you'll be presented with a? block icon next to the Start button when looking up directions.
