Apple has invited the media to a spring event on March 27 in Chicago. Rather, the company is touting the "Let's take a field trip"- dubbed event will focus on "creative new ideas for teachers and students". This year's event will have a strong focus on education, but as far as if or what new gadgets will be revealed - there's only speculation. On one hand, the event probably won't bring anything groundbreaking (if anything at all) in terms of hardware - big news from Apple are much more likely to come out of its new, space-age campus. Improving upon the technological aspect of the school, Lane Tech has recently added several new technologically advanced laboratories and facilities including a Reading and Writing Computer Resource Lab, Apple Computer Lab, and a STEM wing complete with an aquaponics facility, two multi-purpose computer labs, and two lecture spaces. Rumors started circulating a few weeks back that Apple's wireless charging matt will be released in March, so this fits the bill. Whether Apple plans to take on that market with a new product, or just service it with iPads, is unclear.
There has been word on the Apple grapevine that a cheaper MacBook Air is on the way, so perhaps that's what Tim Cook and his fellow executives will be unveiling.
