Offa Robbery: The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Saturday visited the Olofa of Offa, HRH Oba Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II to commiserate with him and bereaved families following the recent bank robbery attacks in the Local Government.

The witness said; "I personally counted up to 30 dead bodies and I am sure the figure might increase because a lot of people were critically injured by gunshots".

The police command in Kwara State has revealed that nine policemen, a pregnant woman and her unborn baby and 13 others were killed in Thursday's armed robbery attacks on five banks in Offa local government area. The operation lasted about an hour with the armed robbers carting away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

They had shot aimlessly and killed many people during the operation.

Before launching their attacks on the banks, the robbers were said to have invaded the Offa divisional police station on entering the ancient town.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Media and Communications, Muideen Akorede told journalists that the money will be offered to anyone who can provide information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects.

However, the number of injured victims is yet to be ascertained as they are receiving treatment in different hospitals, " Ado said.

"While we mourn our dead with a heart full of sadness, and care for the injured by paying all their medical bills, we will do everything in our power to bring the attackers to justice and ensure that never again does any community or people in our state experience such tragedy", Governor Ahmed said. Policing is everybody's job, therefore, when we see unusual people in our communities, we must learn to report to appropriate security agencies because activities like this require some time for planning and execution.

"It is true that there were attacks on some banks at Offa, but I can not identify the banks now". Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who died in the attack.

He also stressed the need for community policing, saying the police would do better if they have information.

The commissioner of police, who assured residents of Offa community of adequate security of lives and property, said that perpetrators of the robbery attack would be brought to book.
