Knicks will at least try to make Jay Wright their head coach

Hornacek had one year remaining on his original contract.

NY made the first of what are expected to be several coaching changes this offseason, joining Milwaukee, Phoenix and Memphis on the market.

Isola named Mark Jackson, Doc Rivers, Jerry Stackhouse, Craig Robibson, Jeff Van Gundy, David Blatt and David Fizdale as possible candidates for the opening.

Hornacek was hired by the team's previous president, Phil Jackson, who parted ways with the club in June 2017 followed a disastrous three years on the job.

His top assistant, Kurt Rambis, was also fired.

However, it might be tough to wrestle Wright away from Villanova. A coaching legend in Europe, Blatt had a 83-40 record in his year and half with the Cavs, including a berth in the Finals in his lone full season of National Basketball Association coaching experience.

The Hammers last won at Stamford Bridge in September 2002 when Paolo Di Canio's late goal clinched a 3-2 victory. Chelsea head into the match having lost three of their last four fixtures in the top flight.

The Knicks have fired head coach Jeff Hornacek after his second season with the club, according to several reports. The Knicks finished this season 29-53, good for 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Knicks will open their offseason with a coaching search.

The Knicks have won only one postseason series since 2002 and didn't get close to competing in one under Hornacek, running their streak to five straight 50-loss debacles.

Associate head coach Kurt Rambis also was sacked. Still, they apparently expected more this season, which started well but quickly fell apart after injuries to Tim Hardaway Jr. and later the season-ending loss of All-Star Kristaps Porzingis. Though he was sacked after that year (2014) and Golden State won the title in 2015, he is credited with building the foundation that has led to the Warriors' success.

Wright has some NY connections as well as he got his head coaching start at Hofstra University on Long Island, leading the mid-major program to a pair of America East titles and NCAA Tournament appearances in seven years.
