Men's Golf in Third Place at NCAA Bryan Regional

The UNCW men's golf team is in ninth place after two rounds at the Bryan (Texas) NCAA Regional tournament.

Sophomore Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) battled back after a hard opening nine holes to play the second nine at even-par and finish tied for 30th after round one with a 4-over 75.

Host team UCF and eighth-ranked Florida lead the 14-team field after shooting a 12-under par 276. Ieremia shot a 4-under-par 68 with six birdies and two bogeys.

The Bearkats will try to make a move today, with Steele set to tee off at 8:55 begin play for Sam Houston.

Sophomore Luke Schniederjans (Powder Springs, Ga.), had just one birdie and two bogeys on his card and shot 72 (+1), while senior Chris Petefish (Danville, Calif.) struggled to a 74 and did not count for the Yellow Jackets. "We struggled and played the first hole 6-over par".

The Blue Devils and Yellow Jackets sit at 553 (-15), four strokes ahead of fifth-place Liberty, which posted a 7-under 277 round and finished 36 holes at 557 (-11). Texas A&M teammates Chandler Phillips and Brandon Smith share the individual lead at 8-under 136. Duke's Jake Shuman, with a 64 Tuesday, is tied for sixth place at 135 (-7) with Chun An Yu of Arizona State, who shot a second-round 70. The top five teams from each regional qualify for the NCAA Championships.

"We are still in the game, but we did not start out well", BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said.

In Columbus, Ohio, University of Iowa sophomore Alex Schaake is tied for 24th after the second round of a NCAA regional at the Scarlet Course was shortened Tuesday.
