The opening of the USA embassy in Jerusalem on Monday triggered deadly clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli security forces in Gaza and the West Bank that left 61 dead and over 2,000 others wounded. The move infuriated the Palestinians, who claim Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem as their capital.

The White House pushed forward with its inauguration Monday, while Israeli forces using live fire on crowds of Palestinian demonstrators protesting against the deeply controversial opening.

President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as the Israeli capital in december, saying the move was made to pursue peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
