Israel and Trump's New Iran Sanctions

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with his North Korean counterpart Ri Yong Ho on Tuesday (Aug 7), on the same day the United States reimposed nuclear-related sanctions on the Islamic republic.

The commission said today it hadn't received any such requests despite the growing number of companies who say they are pulling out of Iran.

North Korea for its part denounced the United States for its "outdated acting script" in pressuring the North with continued sanctions, but said it was still prepared to meet its obligations after a historic North Korea-U.S. summit in Singapore in June. But companies, not governments, import oil-and they are likely to buckle under the USA pressure.

In recent weeks Rouhani renewed the threat, saying that if sanctions threatened Iran's crude oil exports, the rest of the Mideast's exports would be threatened as well.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, speaking in a meeting with North Korea's foreign minister, said that America could not be trusted, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency. "Beyond its nuclear program, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been expanding its support for terrorism in the region and globally, undermining and destabilizing governments in the region, and issuing military threats, including against the very existence of the State of Israel".

The Defense Department announced last week that it was monitoring a major Iranian naval exercise that began August 2 in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz, timed to coincide with the USA reimposition of stringent economic sanctions on Iran restricting trade, export of certain products, and the ability to purchase US currency.

On Tuesday, the United States reinstated sanctions targeting the Iranian government's purchase of USA dollars, Iran's trade in gold and other precious metals, and its automotive sector.

"China has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions and long-armed jurisdiction", the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Wednesday, addressing Trump's decision Monday to reimpose sanctions on Tehran.

The renewed sanctions were among those lifted under a 2015 deal between world powers and Tehran on curbing Iran's nuclear program. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Monday that the sanctions will "counter its malign activities".

"Businesses are fleeing the Iranian market", Hagee asserted.

Noting Iran's geographic proximity to Europe, Maas warned that "anyone who's hoping for regime change must not forget that whatever follows could bring us much bigger problems".

Ri Yong-ho held talks with Javad Zarif, the Iranian foreign minister, on Tuesday, the same day that economic sanctions went back into force against Tehran.

On Tuesday, Russia said it was "deeply disappointed by USA steps to reimpose its national sanctions against Iran" as it pledged to do "everything necessary" to protect its shared economic interests with Tehran.

"If the Americans want to keep this simplistic and impossible idea in their minds they should also know its consequences", Zarif told the Iran newspaper. Iranian vessels reportedly harassed the carrier as it made the transit, but did not delay the ship's passage.

About a third of all oil traded by sea passes through the Strait of Hormuz.

The general said he has come up with no explanation why those aggressive actions - the vast majority carried out by Iranian Revolutionary Guard swift boats - have ceased.

Despite the global outcry, Trump withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and on Tuesday the first batch of the re-imposed US sanctions on Iran, which had been lifted under the deal, came into full effect.
