We will see who United's leaders are - Matic

Midfielder Nemanja Matic said the West Ham defeat was one of his worst games for United.

The Portuguese heads into Tuesday's Champions League clash with Valencia on the back of a winless three-match run - with a penalty shootout defeat to Derby County in the Carabao Cup sandwiched between a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers and a 3-1 reversal at West Ham.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho claims "some players care more than others" in the wake of their recent form - while calling out journalists over the Zinedine Zidane rumours.

While the majority of match-going United supporters have remained fully behind Mourinho, and he has praised them for their support, that tide is turning and home games with Valencia and Newcastle are considered vital ahead of the worldwide break.

"We need to play the ideal match to win", Marcelino continued but added some words of caution about the task ahead.

Was this a big week for Manchester United? I think individually and as a team we were very bad. It was wake up and words that he's said before: we need to be moving, we need to concentrate more, we need to want the ball, we need to be playing.

"Whether it's the best or the worst moment to play them, who knows?" Everyone is trying to do more for the team. I have a role to play, everyone has a role to play.

"For me, if you talk in the dressing room that doesn't mean anything".

"When you are at a club like this, every single day is a new challenge, in every game you play you have to prove all over again that you deserve to wear the shirt and you are worth your place on the pitch". It was another lackluster showing from Jose Mourinho's squad, and certainly one that will turn up the pressure, but not almost as much as it would have been had the team lost. "The most important thing is tomorrow's game, what happens in it and achieving a positive result".
