ITunes accepting donations for Hurricane Harvey relief

The Red Cross says some volunteers decide to stay for months depending on the need. Shortly after making landfall, the system was downgraded to a tropical storm, but it still wrecked havoc among much of Texas.

At least two people were dead and 12 or more were injured as a result of the hurricane Sunday morning.

More than 570 people have posted their requests for help on the page - requesting food, rides, volunteers for clean-up crews and the like. The storm came in as a Category 4 late Friday night and threw heavy winds and buckets of rain all at once.

Those searching for a way to help Texans impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey need look no further than iTunes or the iOS App Store.

The Red Cross now has enough supplies mobilized to support more than 20,000 people for weeks, if necessary.

But perhaps the easiest way to help is to donate $10 to the Red Cross by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999.

The South Carolina region of the Red Cross is sending 53 volunteers to areas affected by Harvey along with three response vehicles.

"They're serving people's immediate needs".

Organizations such as the American Red Cross and Salvation Army are trained to respond to disasters such as Harvey, which is pounding the Texas Gulf Coast. To help with the coming relief efforts, Apple has begun accepting donations for the Red Cross through iTunes.

"They want to get us down there early because there's not much time between now and when it really gets ugly, ' a Red Cross volunteer, said".
